| Letter
of support from President of AFL-CIO, John J. Sweeney.
September 8, 2003
I'm sorry I cannot be with you today, but I want you to know you have the full support of the AFL-CIO, our Executive Council and our 64 affiliated unions in your struggle to pry a decent contract from the greedy hands of Long Island University. Trying to cut health benefits and provide inadequate raises during an economic recovery would be reprehensible for any employer. For an institution of higher learning, it is inexcusable. In making such demands, as well as by withholding support for scholarly research and denying adjunct professors benefits and longevity raises, Long Island University joins a growing list of colleges and universities that are lowering standards for workers at all levels when they should be raising them. Please know that 13 million members of AFL-CIO unions are standing with you, and we will be there for as long as it takes to bring Long Island University to justice. In Solidarity, John J. Sweeney
